The Life of Guru Rinpoche
10:30am – 1:00pm
In the morning session Lama Jampa will narrate the life story of Padmasambhava, the ‘Lotus Born Guru’, known to Tibetans as Guru Rinpoche, he was the great master from Oddiyana who through his spiritual power ensured the stability and flourishing of the teachings of the Vajrayana in Tibet. He also concealed countless treasure (terma) teachings throughout Tibet for the benefit of future generations. Before departing to the island of Chamara, he promised to come to all who prayed to him. His real nature is no different to that of the buddhas of the three times, and his blessings are still very much present in the world.
Initiation of Guru Rinpoche*
2:30 – 4:30pm
In the afternoon Lama Jampa will bestow the initiation of Guru Rinpoche from the lineage of Apham Terton, the great Nyingmapa terton who was thought to be the previous incarnation of the 41st Sakya Trizin. Following the initiation Lama Jampa will give the lung for The Shower of Blessings practice. This practice known as ‘the Guru Yoga combined with the Seven Line Prayer of Guru Rinpoche’, was composed by Mipham Rinpoche, one of the greatest 19th century Tibetan lamas of the Nyingma tradition. He gave it the name ‘Shower of Blessings’, as through its practice one receives the blessings of the guru. The practice also includes a Tsok Feast, which is performed at Dechen Centres on the 10th day of every lunar month.
