Last weekend people from across the UK came to Harrogate for the visit of Lama Jampa Thaye and Dechen Dolma. The highlight of the weekend was the bestowal of the Amitabha Initiation (Buddha of Limitless Light) from the Sky Dharma lineage of Mingyur Dorje, on Saturday afternoon. During the event six people ‘took refuge’ in the three Jewels - the Buddha, the dharma; his teachings, and the sangha; those who practise the teachings - in this way entering onto the Buddhist path. This heartfelt ceremony reminded us of the power of friendship and of the valuable treasure we have to share with others. There were many new faces at the event and people of all ages, from the very young to the older ones.
At the conclusion of the event, Lama Jampa looked ahead to the important events being hosted by Dechen in July this year. He spoke of how special and timely the visit of His Holiness 17th Karmapa, Thaye Dorje to Harrogate and Manchester is, and of how by supporting and enriching the visit our hearts will be opened to receive the Karmapa`s blessings.
On Sunday 28th Lama Jampa visited the Harrogate Dechen centre of Kagyu Dechen Dzong and saw many people for interviews, giving individual practice advice and transmissions as requested. He also found time to bless the centre’s new Saraswati Rupa.
Everyone at Dechen Dzong wishes Lama Jampa safe travels during these busy times and looks forward to seeing him soon in the presence of His Holiness.
The final part of this series of teachings will be the transmission of Phowa, which will be given by Lama Jampa in September in Harrogate. Further details can be found here.
