On the evening of the 8th January, an event entitled ‘Navigating Spirituality in an Age of Doubt’, saw Lama Jampa in conversation in Manchester’s stylish city centre venue HOME. This event was attended by over 200 people of all ages and backgrounds. During the interview, Lama Jampa was asked about his entry into Buddhism from his Catholic upbringing. He also responded to questions about science and politics and their relationship with the dharma life, and the role of the Buddhist path in uncovering the transcendental.
Lama Jampa explained that if we don’t exaggerate science and politics they can be useful tools for bringing temporary benefit to others, whilst advising the audience to avoid the trap of utopianism. He touched on the legacy of Christianity, as well as the need for spiritual practice in modern times and then, with gentleness and clarity, discussed Buddhism’s unique insight into the nature of mind and the world.
