On June 21st 2025 Lama Jampa taught for the first time in Scotland. The events were hosted by a new Dechen group recently established there. In the morning he gave a general talk about the practice of Buddhism, Harnessing the Wind Horse of the Mind’, and in the afternoon bestowed the initiation of Vajrakilaya from the terms lineage of Dechen Lingpa. People came from across the UK to receive these precious teachings. Below is a report from a member of the team at Dechen Scotland.

What an extraordinary day it was for those who gathered for Lama Jampa Thaye's public talk on Buddhism! The air was buzzing with anticipation and a shared sense of curiosity as people, from seasoned practitioners to complete newcomers, arrived. And by all accounts, the Lama was able to connect with all levels.
One attendee, who admitted to knowing "only a little about Buddhism" beforehand, left feeling profoundly impacted. "I found the Lama's talk informative and inspiring," they shared. What resonated particularly was the Lama's encouragement of investigation, a hallmark of Buddhist teaching that invites personal exploration rather than all blind faith. This approach clearly allowed many to connect deeply with the profound wisdom being shared.
The sense of connection extended beyond the teachings themselves. There was a tangible feeling of community, with one person exclaiming, "I enjoyed every moment. Met amazing people and I feel very inspired. I can’t wait to see Lama Jampa again." This speaks volumes about the warmth and openness that permeated the event.
For those who regularly engage with Buddhist practice, seeing Lama Jampa in a local setting brought a unique blend of the familiar and the extraordinary. As one person eloquently put it, there was "a fabulous sense of unreality to see the Lama here on our home-ground: but then to think, this is exactly like preparing for and inviting the Lama in our own practice!" This reflection highlights the deeply personal and transformative nature of the teachings, even when presented in a public forum.
Perhaps the most exciting sentiment was the feeling of a new beginning. "I loved the new connections everyone was making and the feeling of a journey just begun, with a fair hike to the summit," commented one attendee, perfectly capturing the hopeful and forward-looking atmosphere. This was echoed by another, who expressed their joy at the first "Dechen Scotland event" and their hope for "many more to come."
It's clear that Lama Jampa Thaye's talk was more than just an informative session; it was a deeply enriching experience that fostered connection, inspired personal growth, and ignited a spark for continued exploration on the Buddhist path. Days like these are a powerful reminder of the profound impact that such wisdom and compassion can have on our lives.
