On Saturday 20 September, Venerable Lama Jampa Thaye gave a day of teaching at Ashville College, Harrogate. The college, set in beautiful grounds, provided a fitting setting for this autumn visit to Yorkshire.
On this occasion, Lama Jampa taught directly from the text, guiding the audience page by page as he delivered his commentary. The focus was on the classic instructions of Mind Training, presented not as an academic exercise but as a practical guide to transforming daily life.
Lama Jampa explained how the teachings help us to recognise the ways suffering arises and how happiness can instead be cultivated through training the mind. He showed how these methods allow us to approach every circumstance—positive or negative—with greater clarity, resilience, and compassion.
In closing, Lama Jampa emphasised that even the most difficult experiences are never fixed. By applying the advice of the Mind Training tradition, we can discover their fluid nature and glimpse the blessings transmitted through an unbroken lineage of realised masters.
