Lama Jampa is currently in Los Angeles where he has been giving teachings to the Sakya Samten Ling sangha. Lama Jampa travelled to Los Angeles with Dechen Dolma following their visit to Japan to attend the 6th World Buddhist Summit where Lama Jampa attended as representative of the UK. A video of the Summit can be found here.
In Los Angeles, during the the morning on 20 December, Lama Jampa taught Sakya Pandita’s Reply to Nyimo Gomchen. This text consists of a series of questions, put to Sakya Pandita, concerning the essence of dharma and the stages of practice. In his responses, Sakya Pandita clearly defines the dharma and describes its fundamental constituents. He removes confusion about the lama and emptiness and points out the need to balance study with meditation.
In the afternoon, Lama Jampa bestowed the Initiation of Green Tara from the lineage of Atisha. Meditation on Green Tara is one of the most widely practised in Tibetan Buddhism. The goddess herself is the embodiment of the liberating activity of all the buddhas. As such her initiation and meditation are especially effective means of awakening one’s innate capacity for enlightened compassion.
Lama Jampa will return to the UK on 27 December and will be travelling to Kagyu Ling, Manchester in the new year.
