Compassion and Buddha Nature in the Czech Republic

Bodhi Path Prague

Bodhi Path Prague in the Czech Republic was the venue for three days of teaching by Lama Jampa last weekend. The centre, which has just celebrated the tenth anniversary of its founding by the late 14th Shamar Rinpoche, is one of a number of dharma communities throughout Czechia.

Religion in the Czech Republic

Although historically the Czech lands were majority Catholic and minority Protestant, religion is not very strong there. The Wars of Religion between contending Catholic and Protestant forces in the 17th century weakened it and then the imposition of Communist atheism in more recent times reduced its influence even more severely.

Despite this there has been a certain interest in Buddhism even during the totalitarian times - some connected with academic studies and some due to the work of the Swabisch artist and Buddhist populariser Anagarika Govinda.

Teachings on Buddha Nature and Chenrezi

During this visit to Prague, Lama Jampa continued his teaching on Jamgon Kongtrul’s Rays of the Immaculate Vajra Moon and also bestowed the Meditation Transmission of Tangtong Gyalpo’s Chenrezi sadhana. People attended from as far afield as eastern Slovakia and Manchester. In between the sessions of teaching, Lama Jampa and Dechen Dolma were able to enjoy the beauty of the historic centre of the city.
