The Dechen Mexican Sangha welcomed Lama Jampa and Dechen Dolma to Mexico City on October 16th for a seven-day visit of teachings.
On Tuesday October 17th Lama Jampa gave a talk on the "modernity" and relevance of Buddhism in today's world. He stressed the need to see the core of dharma and not to be bound by cultural trappings, since the Buddha mind does not change culture to culture. People's minds in all cultures and countries are equally obscured by hatred, desire and ignorance. He walked us through the essence of the 3-vehicle Buddhist path and sequence of practice.
During his visit, Lama Jampa bestowed the Bodhisattva vow, the initiations of Chenrezik Mahamudra and Green Tara. He also gave the teaching of the Seven Points of Mind-Training using Karma Thinley Rinpoche's commentary Dispelling the Darkness of Suffering. Lama Jampa also gave 30 private interviews to students of dharma.
At the end of the teachings, more than 20 members of the sangha gathered with Lama Jampa and Dechen Dolma for a dinner celebration of his 71st birthday.
