Lama Jampa Thaye has just completed his month-long North American teaching tour.
During this visit Lama Jampa taught on both the East and West Coasts and also made his annual visit to Sakya Dolma Ling in Mexico. Both Dechen and Bodhi Path centers hosted Lama Jampa and Dechen Dolma at various stages of the tour.
It was a very successful visit where Lama Jampa spent time with many different people and connections with other centers and lineages in the US were strengthened. After beginning in Virginia with Bodhi Path and then visiting Sakya Dolma Ling in Mexico, Lama Jampa arrived in California where he spent the last three weeks of the tour.
During this busy time, Lama Jampa gave two weekends of teachings at Sakya Samten Ling where he continued with his teaching of Nagajuna’s Friendly Letter and gave the initiations of Chenrezik and Green Tara. In between these events, he travelled to Bodhi Path Santa Barbara where he gave a weekend of Lojong teachings.
After the final event of the tour at Sakya Samten Ling on Sunday, Lama Jampa requested all of his students to keep on with their efforts in practice and study and reminded us of the length of time it takes to change the human heart. He also reflected on how the differences in people trying to practice is not so great. As the Buddha said, all beings have the same wishes and all share the same capacity for Buddhahood. Finally he reminded us that our centers are part of the great and vast Buddhist sangha and that there are still incomparable masters alive today who embody what it is to have gone to the far reaches of the path.
Lama Jampa has now returned to London where he will bestow teachings hosted by Sakya Dechen Ling this weekend. His next visit to the US will be in May.
