Blessed with sunshine all day, Yorkshire Buddhist Community welcomed visitors from around the country to hear this wonderful teaching given by Lama Jampa Thaye.
Presented in a series of verses and described by Patrul Rinpoche as brief advice, this teaching inspires us and strengthens our interest in receiving further instruction. The text stresses the importance of reliance upon the properly qualified Lama as he or she has the experience in the dharma that we lack.
Advice Straight from the Heart makes it clear that Buddhahood is achieved on the foundation of an ethical basis; the wholehearted acceptance of the meaning of refuge in the three jewels and the understanding that the achievement of enlightenment is to help all beings. It also includes a stark reminder that this is not achieved through interpreting dharma as a series of ideas and descriptions.
These verses were written to help us to overcome our misconceptions and to absorb the teachings naturally into our daily lives. A detailed yet succinct teaching, this text is indispensable for all levels of practice. As Patrul Rinpoche intended, it is the heart of wisdom and compassion.
