Last weekend Lama Jampa gave a full day of teachings from the Sakya tradition at Fulham Palace in London. The former residence of the Bishop from the 11th until the 20th century, its beautiful grounds formed an historic backdrop to the event.
In the morning Lama Jampa taught the first part of Sakya Pandita’s text ‘Letter to the Noble Minded’. This relatively short text delineates between correct and incorrect presentations of the dharma. Composed by the great compassionate scholar and vajrayana master at a time when over simplified and one sided presentations of the dharma were once more flourishing in Tibet, these teachings remain pertinent to present times.
In the afternoon Lama Jampa bestowed the initiation of White Manjusri from the lineage of Mati Panchen, the one time buffalo herder who was a student of the Indian Pandita Jetari. The initiation lineage entered the Sakya school through Shakya Shribhadra and Lama Jampa received it from both His Holiness Sakya Trichen and Karma Thinley Rinpoche.
The day ended with the dedication of merit to the benefit of all beings and the aspiration for the continuation of the teaching in a second event for Dechen London in March 2022.
