A personal account by one of Lama Jampa’s students, of the book launch held in Bristol UK in October 2021 where Lama Jampa read from his new book: River of Memory: Dharma Chronicles.

On Saturday 2 October over 120 people journeyed through the autumn rain to enjoy a day of teachings with Buddhist meditation master and scholar, Lama Jampa Thaye at The Future Inn, Bristol.

Despite all the current travel restrictions, Lama Jampa was somehow able to undertake a ten day tour of Dechen and Bodhi Path centres in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It was a wonderful occasion for all the students who had long anticipated Lama-la’s arrival.

On Saturday, September 11th, 2021, Lama Jampa Thaye made his Autumn visit to Yorkshire to transmit the final chapters of The Jewel Rosary of the Supreme Path, composed by Lord Gampopa (1074-1153).

From July until the end of August Lama Jampa was in residence in the Périgord noir region of France. During this time gave teachings and engaged in countless other dharma activities, including the bestowal of vajrayana initiations and visits to a number of Buddhist centres in the area.

Lama Jampa Thaye received a warm welcome when he visited the north west on 10 and 11 July to give his first teaching in the region since February 2020. This shedra teaching - the sixth instalment of ‘The Jewel Ornament of Liberation’ by Gampopa - was long-awaited and very much appreciated by around 150 students who gathered at the Bolton Whites Hotel.

On Saturday 3 July Lama Jampa was able to give his first public teaching of 2021 . The event took place at Ashton Gate stadium in Bristol, England and around 100 people came together from all corners of the UK to attend.

Lama Jampa's planned teachings for the Bodhi Path centres in Valencia and Prague this month were cancelled. These, as well as the requested teachings at Khyenkong centre in Warsaw, will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity.

On Saturday 24 October Lama Jampa Thaye gave a day of rare and precious dharma teachings at Fulham Palace, London.

I would like to express my great appreciation of the manner in which our centres, groups and individual students have maintained our activities during these past several months.

On Saturday 3 October, the Sakya Buddhist Centre was delighted to welcome Lama Jampa to give a day of Buddhist teachings at the Paintworks Eventspace in Bristol.

At the end of September Lama Lampa Thaye traveled to Germany and visited the Bodhipath centre Renchen-Ulm as well as Sakya Dechen Ling in Stuttgart.

In the words of that well known Joni Mitchell song* “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone”, the last few months have given us pause for thought if we imagined that the Lama’s packed programme of teachings up and down this country and beyond was invulnerable to change and circumstance.

Last week Lama Jampa and family were happy to be able to make visits to both Kagyu Ling Buddhist Centre in Manchester and Sakya Thinley Rinchen Ling in Bristol.

This coming Friday, June 5th is the holy day on which we celebrate the Enlightenment and Parinirvana of Lord Buddha. On this day, the power of positive aspirations is immensely increased. So, I request people to set aside some time on this day to carry out such virtuous practice.

This time of uncertainty and concern reminds us that the Three Jewels are the only sure refuge for this life and beyond. Furthermore, they remind us of our commitment to work for the liberation of all beings from suffering. In short, the present time of difficulty clarifies things for us immensely.

Kagyu Ling Buddhist Centre sangha and friends were recently fortunate to receive an extended visit from Lama Jampa and family to Manchester.

It was in 2005 that Lama Jampa and his wife Dechen Dolma last came to Zurich. In the intervening time the previous Sharmar Rinpoche founded a centre in Zurich city which has grown and flourished over the years.

Lama Jampa Thaye arrived at Sakya Buddhist Centre Bristol on Friday 24 January, accompanied by Dechen Dolma, Kate and the four legged member of the family, Roxy.

Lama Jampa arrived in Los Angeles on Tuesday January 7 for a ten day visit.
